Description

The speech had been dull to Roc, but it made him think. Adulthood was now upon him, he thought, as he basked in the sun outside of the ceremony cavern. He didn't feel any different; he was still an outsider, and still disrespected, expecially since he'd taken on that beating from the Skrekrills a few weeks before.

Roc had been taking long flights since he recovered. He needed not only to stretch his muscles, but also to consider some things. Was he really as strong as he thought he was? He imagined his bulkiness and strength might be his only strong points. Or were the Skrekrill just that powerful? They fought with purpose, too, that he had never witnessed in a Grandesque. Perhaps a place like Skrekrill was the ideal home for one who was strong and desired a a greater place in life...

"Roc."

Roc turned to face his father, who had quietly taken a seat beside him. "Yes?"

"You are an adult today," he stated. "What will you do now?" His tone implied that no answer could surprise him.

Roc looked at the ground. "I'm not sure."

The older gryphon seemed interested. "Not sure? Your eyes tell me you've been thinking hard about it, boy."

Roc glanced up at him. "I've been thinking about leaving." He looked up at his father nervously, then stamped the ground with his paw. "I want purpose, I want respect, I want--"

"Freedom?" his father suggested. "Roc, I know you're not fit for Grandesque. Neither am I, but I have a purpose here." He nudged his son. "Your purpose lies elsewhere; I can feel it. It's just a matter of finding it."

Roc mulled this over for a moment. "So...you wouldn't object if I left?"

"No." The gryphon shook his head. "If you find yourself, I'll be happy." He looked at the sun's position in the sky. "Now I believe your mother told me I was to get home quickly. For what, I don't know. But I'll see you soon, son." He stood up and stretched.

Roc smiled. "Thank you," he sighed, grateful for his father's acceptance. He watched his father launch himself off the cliff into the sky.

"You will remember your family?"

"I will, father," Roc called back as his father left him to further thinking.

Yup.... not much to say... Most of this was done with a mouse, and it made me grateful for my tablet.
